Or, why I should stay out of the Life Issues forums

So, there's this person on the forums saying she needs someone to listen to her, she's tried committing suicide, her boyfriend ignores her and her friends never make any effort to contact her and her life is shitty.

So I told her exactly what I would tell one of my face-to-face friends if they came to me with this. I told her that she doesn't need to get them to pay attention to her, she needs to improve her self-esteem. I recommended a good therapist, or Tony Robbins' books. Because - GASP! I used to have shitty friends, low self-esteem, a shitty past, and a suicidal streak. And guess what worked for me? You're RIGHT! It WAS a wonderful therapist who helped me boost my self-esteem, learn to love myself, and find better friends! And even at this high point in my life, I feel like Tony Robbins' books have helped me improve myself.

And she writes back, Why don't you read before you say stupid shit? I hate Tony Robbins. I don't have low self-esteem, I have a shitty life.

Because people with high self-esteem have to rely on people on the internet to talk to them so they don't try to commit suicide again.

I am amazed at peoples' capacity to SUCK.
